Many of the active duty or retired service members I work with often express uncertainty about whether their military experiences have affected them. However, they are able to describe daily struggles such as "difficulty sleeping, avoiding social situations, daily drinking to unwind, feeling on edge, and persistent anger." Through therapy, they gradually recognize that these challenges often stem from underlying issues like PTSD, anxiety, depression, and long-buried substance use concerns. Over the years, military personnel have grappled with the stigma surrounding mental health, fearing potential career consequences and being labeled as weak or misunderstood. Today, our focus is on supporting veterans in New York & Pennsylvania, fostering understanding and breaking down the barriers that prevent them from seeking help.
My experience comes from both personally as a military spouse and professionally working for over 8 years with Military Service member/Veterans both active duty and retired, who struggle with their own unique challenges and experiences associated with their time in the services.
As an experienced therapist, I understand and recognize that your time in the service can often result in lasting effects on you the Service Member, and your families. My background allows me to be conscious of the demands that military service brings such as deployments, separation from family and friends, learning and adapting to the military culture and making it a way of life, and reintegration back into civilian life, while using a Trauma Informed approach in a safe and confidential setting.
My goal in therapy is to foster a healthy, safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can communicate where you want to go in therapy. Together we can explore healthy coping skills that help you to manage stress and build resilience. Through therapy you will discover that it’s ok to have a range of emotions about your military experience, whether its sadness, anger, or even fulfillment. My aim is to empower you with tools and skills you need to manage your challenges today.
Lets work on this. I offer FREE 15 minute consult where we can briefly discuss what your are struggling with and what you hope to gain from therapy. Look for BOOK NOW button and scheduled the next consultation time so you can get started on feeling better. # military experience # military service member # support veterans # New York
